Elise Dances in TAPPS State Dance Competition

Freshman Elise Estes dances at Wichita Youth Ballet 6 days a week, spending her time in classes for Ballet Pointe, Modern/Lyrical, and rehearsals for performances with the Wichita Falls Ballet Theatre, of which, she is a Senior Company Member. Recently, Elise used her gift of dance and hard work to compete in the TAPPS State Dance competition for Christ Academy.

Because of our Blended Learning Model, our Senior High students have the option to earn their physical education credit through off-campus activities that meet the requirements for course credit. Last semester, while maintaining her core coursework and attending live lessons, Elise earned PE credit by participating in ballet classes and rehearsals.

When it came time to prepare for the recent competition, Elise chose her music, choreographed her lyrical dance solo, and practiced for weeks for the TAPPS State Dance Competition. She scored 96 out of 100 points on her solo and earned a Division 1 Superior Rating, the highest rating one can receive.

Our students are able to pursue their passions while preparing for the next chapter in life. Elise is currently our only dance competitor, but we hope to have more dance students in the future who are able to take advantage of the flexibility of our program while pursuing creativity both in- and outside of school activities.

I think it would be a little bit more difficult to dance in my company at a different type of school because I couldn’t leave early, and like, Fridays if I needed them off, I couldn’t just leave. I like how at Christ Academy, I can go if I have all of my work done.
