Jr. High Students Shine at Science Fair

Congratulations, Scientists!

Our Grade 6 + 7 Science classes recently participated in the Red River Regional Science & Engineering Fair, presenting science projects in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Engineering. Our students represented Christ Academy well, and we had several win awards.

Each student had several months to create and produce a science project following the scientific method. Projects ranged from which common antacid neutralizes acid more effectively to how different types of fins affect the altitude in rockets. Data was gathered and collected, and students created both physical and digital presentations of their findings.

Science fair gives kids the opportunity to choose an interest and test a hypothesis. They get a small taste of the scientific process.
— Sam Ross, Jr. High Science Teacher

Following the completion of their projects, students wrote written reports summarizing their hypothesis, procedures, findings, and Biblical application(s) for their research. They then took their physical projects to the Science Fair competition, earning Christ Academy eight 1st place awards, eight 2nd place awards, and four 3rd place awards. Special awards were given to Myles Haggard for the “Conservation Award for Outstanding Research Involving Texas Natural Resources” and to Nixon Heptner for the “Judges Choice - Most Innovative and Practical” award. The students who won the in the overall category and qualified for the State Science Fair will be submitted to the ACSI virtual fair, hosted by Azusa Pacific University. The virtual science fair will be after spring break.

This week, all students presented their digital projects in front of classmates and parents, explaining their process, variables, and whether their hypothesis had been supported or not. These students have worked diligently on their projects, learning firsthand the importance of the scientific method and how to gather and collect data in various ways. Way to go, Warriors!
