Early Childhood Creates Kindergarten-Ready Students

Baking Week in Early Childhood

Early Childhood, EC, learns under Christ Academy’s academic approach of Research, Produce, Present. Since CA isn’t a one-size-fits-all environment, we’ve adapted this to be more age-appropriate for our youngest students because they learn best through creativity and play.
Hence our EC academic approach is Learn, Play, Create.

If you’re unfamiliar with our EC program, each week is a different themed unit that incorporates their learning curriculum. From Western week to camping, manners to the circus, they cover it all while creating a high-quality learning environment to produce a Kindergarten-ready child who loves to learn and play.

Research in Early Childhood is taught by the teachers and supported in the classroom. Weekly themes are reinforced with themed play centers, anchor charts, books, age-appropriate online activities, classwork, hands-on activities, artwork, and other various methods to convey new information.

It’s a natural progression. We provide varied, daily leadership opportunities for the students to orally respond, question, interpret, and present the information to their classmates and parents.
— Kerri Short, EC4 Teacher

Recently, our EC students enjoyed a baking-themed week. They learned about recipes, measuring, baking tools, various baked goods, and more. Next, they were tasked with researching a favorite recipe at home with their families and creating it together, documenting the process. Each student then had the opportunity to present their homemade treat for the class while presenting a poster showcasing the tools and ingredients used, the steps needed to complete the process, and who helped them in the kitchen. With the help of their teachers, their confidence grew as they presented in front of peers and adults and are one step closer to Kindergarten-readiness.

It is important for us to lay the groundwork for the research component the students will experience throughout their CA education.
— Karie Levell, Early Childhood Division Head + EC3 Teacher

Students demonstrate presentation skills by sharing their baked goods with their classmates at the end.
