New Chapel the Center of Spiritual Life

Christ Academy’s chapel, known as the Chapel of Light, was completed in January 2022 and is used by Early Childhood, Lower School, and Upper School students attending age-appropriate weekly chapel each Wednesday. After the water damage occurred on campus in February 2021, Administration made lemons out of lemonade and turned the old library and high school space into a dedicated chapel.

A dedicated chapel was essential to me and our students, staff, donors, and alumni because the original Burns Chapel at the Episcopal School impacted the spiritual life of each student. We wanted to honor the legacy of the Burns Chapel at Christ Academy and are thrilled to have a beautiful, dedicated space.

According to Dr. Meadows, the Chapel of Light’s name has many meanings. First, light symbolizes God, faith, and holiness throughout Scripture.“When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12.

As Christians, we are called to not only walk in the light but to be the light for others. “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, giving light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:15,16.

And finally, the chapel is the “heart” of our school, as Christ is the “heart” of our faith, where Christ Academy students can come together as part of the body of Christ. “But if we walk in the light, as He is the light, we have fellowship with one another…” 1 John 1:7
