Every January, Christ Academy students get to take part in an engaging and collaborative week of fun before real lessons start that we call Reset Week. Through volunteer work, senior high students got to work hands on with elementary and junior high kids to teach the Word of God in an entertaining way. This year, the focus was on the Armor of God, featuring the Bible verses Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 6:10-11.
The themes of the week were integrated into every activity that the students did. During arts and crafts, Lower School students got to flex their creative muscles by designing their very own belts of truth and shields of faith. In science, they learned how to connect God with scientific concepts through experiments and demonstrations. In the chapel, students watched both entertaining skits and listened to educational stories that informed the students on the themes of the week. And in the gym, they got to connect with their fellow students by playing fun, collaborative games.
However, this week is not only important for the lower school students, but for the upper school students as well. While volunteering in the morning, the Senior High got to interact with younger students that they might not see otherwise.
According to one of these volunteers, freshman Nikki Goodgion, “Reset Week is such an inspiring time as a high schooler. It gives us a chance to build fellowship with our younger students, as well as providing time to strengthen our own relationships with Christ.” Furthermore, helping younger students discover their own love for Christ and passion for being a Christian is an “honor and a blessing” according to sophomore Allison Marshall and “amazing to experience firsthand” according to senior Bradyn Clarke. After lunch, Senior High students got to take time for themselves to play games and receive a biblical lesson.
Every day was opened by a schoolwide chapel, led by our Head of School, Mr. Jacobus, or Upper School Bible teacher, Coach Hawkins, where we sang songs and learned what part of the armor of God we would be going over for that day. A school-wide girls vs boys canned food drive was also held to benefit the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, which raised over 540 donations in just three days, with the girls winning 303-245.
Whether it be through crafts, games, skits, or sermons, Reset Week provides the Christ Academy student body the ability to connect with each other while simultaneously strengthening their faith.
