Spotlight | Grade 1 Women's History Research Project
building independence through research
Last week, our first-grade students took a deep dive into Women’s History, embarking on their one of their first independent research projects! Each Fabulous Firstie chose a remarkable woman who made a difference in the world, then used a combination of digital books, iPad resources, and books provided by Mrs. Barnes to guide their research.
From trailblazers like Helen Keller, Mary Blair, and Jane Goodall to creative and scientific icons such as Frida Kahlo, Marie Curie, and Ella Fitzgerald, students explored the lives and legacies of these extraordinary women.
This was a big milestone, as students were given more freedom to explore, design their project boards, and present on their own. Their hard work culminated in a special presentation in front of their peers, where they confidently shared what they had learned with one another.
To add to the excitement, Firsties spent time on Friday before presentations with their 8th-grade Bible Buddies, reading books and polishing their presentations. Their research journey doesn’t stop here—they’ll continue building their skills with more projects throughout the remainder of the year, leading up to their final research project on animals.
