Chess Club Wins at North/Central Texas State Scholastic Chess Championships

Eight Christ Academy students & their Coach, Trevor Edwards, traveled and competed in the 2018 North/Central Texas State Scholastic Chess Championships in Houston, TX on March 9-11, with seven total matches played per student.  Their first game was Friday night, followed by three games on Saturday and Sunday. All players in both teams won at least two games and contributed points to the team scores. More than 800 students from all over Texas, ranging in age from Kindergarten – High School, played in the tournament.

Christ Academy's Chess Club had two teams:  Primary Junior Varsity (Grades K-3) was Hudson Clark, Hayes Clark, Whit Parkey, and Liam Roeine.  This division had 80 players. Hudson Clark won four of his seven games and received an Honorable Mention trophy.  The team placed 9th and received a team trophy.

Elementary Novice (Grades K-5) was Julian Andersen, Brennan Edwards, Caleb Hope, and Dylan Razook.  This division had 73 players. Julian Andersen won 1st place in this division, making him the Elementary Novice champion in the state of Texas. He received a large trophy and was the only student in the division to win all 7 games!

Coach Trevor Edwards couldn’t be prouder of his boys!  They put in a lot of hard work in preparation, had fun, and learned a lot from the experience.
